Unable to connect to the destination SMTP

Unable to connect to the destination SMTP

Postby jum » Tue Jan 22, 2008 4:24 am

We are getting several domains from which we are getting the following message:

user@domain.com - Unable to connect to the destination SMTP

I have tried using the SMTP test feature in the thick client, and it seems to be timing out. We can ping the said domain from the mail server, and emails from hotmail are reaching these domains.

There can be several causes of this problem, but the most common one is that the MX record lookup is failing. What I recommend doing is examining your outmail log to see if your can spot any obvious errors. If indeed the MX records are not being obtained correctly, a solution is to provide the outgoing mail service with some specific IP addresses for known and working DNS's. If you would like my opionon you can copy and paste your log data here or email it to me at rob@code-crafters.com.
