AMS 3

AMS 3

Postby m1byo » Wed Mar 04, 2009 6:05 pm

I thought I would start a post to find out how AMS 3 is coming on and if a potential release date has been set.

I am sure there are a lot of us looking forward to this much awaited new version of such a good Mail Server!

Thanks

Ian

AMS3 is still under-developement and we are hoping for a release this autumn. Of course as you may have noticed, the project has had been delayed a couple of times in the past and so we are trying to avoid estimating release dates (although I have just provided one). Thank you for your support however and we hope to get this to you as soon as possible.

we are interested in this as well. We are an enterprise licensee and would like to see this very good mail server continue to be upgraded and updated.

Will AMS3 have support for URBL spam filtering?

URBL isn't on our list of incoming features, but it is certainly something we have a mind to add. In the meantime, these can be manually done to a degree by using content filtering and doing direct text matches to try and identify certain URL's. You would need to use the condition body text matches.

Will you incorporate some of the newer sendmail features, like an enhanced greet-pause filter?

I don't the exact nature of greet-pause, but Ability Mail Server contains a similar feature I believed. We refer to it has transaction delays, which basically allow you to add a timed delay between the server responses. This slows down an SMTP transaction and avoids impatient clients, which tend to be SPAM agents.

Will there be any kind of sender verification options like other anti-spam mail services use.

A challenge-response is something we have considered and even roughly designed for future implementation. However, we dont have any short term plans to add such a feature yet.

I'd like to request a feature: A mobile web version of the remote admin for iPhone and other handheld devices.

AMS 3, when will it release, what are the new features? Is this something you are working on or not? I've seen references to you are working on this for about three years now. I understand you are doing a complete rewrite but three years seems a bit ridiculous. Do you have a roadmap that shows the new features, etc you will be adding?

Sorry I missed your original post. AMS is indeed something we are still developing and have continued doing so for the last 3 years. Of course our original plan was for a much ealier release, but due to some signficant changes in design during the development, the release date as slipped back. Presently we still have no planned release date. I should note we have continued developement of version 2 along side and added many features in the preceding time such as a new WebMail system, SPAM filters and many more smaller features. This will continue of course until version 3 is eventually released.

Here are some suggestions that may be asking a little too much for version 2.72 or maybe even 3, but for the future...

I'd like to suggest a CalDAV server and a plugin for Outlook similar to Apple's MobileMe features.

Also, find a way to keep people's contacts on the server and optionally sync them with Outlook, Facebook, Google, etc.
