Email not being forwarded to my Blackberry

Postby BBMB32 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 4:05 am

Things have been running just fine for over a year and haven't even touched my Email Server. Today (with the massive amount of snow we are getting), I knew my phone would be blowing up. However, it wasn't. There were many emails in the queue waiting to be sent, and all were going to my blackberry. All the other emails are getting sent out with out an issue. Any ideas?

Here's is what I have found after digging deeper. I use numerous mailing lists (Family mailing list, weather mailing list, tech news mailing list, etc). The outmail log above shows all the addresses that it didn't send to. However, the email addresses that it did send to were emails on the server that didn't have to be sent out.

What do I have to do to fix this?

Looking at your logs, it would seem the destination email server that you are sending your outbound mail to is refusing the mailing list mails due to the lack of a sender address. Basically you relay your mail through your ISP road runner who is currently (observed from your logs) is enforcing SMTP sender verification, and the mailing list having none is automatically failing it. Unfortunatly AMS does not permit sender addresses in mailing list mails as this creates the danger of infinite mail loops from bounces, so as security check we blank the sender. This works for almost all situations but some particular servers do have an issue. Now in the future we do plan to extend mailing lists so they have a built in capability to manage bounces and process them.

The only real solution I see here is attempting to set up your mail server so you don't have to route through road runner (independant mode). Another possiblity would be to request to road runner that their sender verification algorithm be switched off for your IP (probably not possible maybe worth a try).
