Migrating to a new server

Migrating to a new server

Postby cearnshaw » Thu Nov 03, 2011 12:24 am

I notice your instructions call for copying the entire C:\Program Files\Code-Crafters\Ability Mail Server 2\ folder when migrating AMS to a new server. Is there a reason that we couldn't just copy the config folder if we're moving to a server that already has AMS installed?

Also, is there typically much of a performance hit to AMS if we have the programs on one hard drive and the accounts stored on another?

Thanks!

It's often easier to just copy the entire installation folder to avoid having to re-install. However, if you re-install on the new server then all you need to do is copy the config folder over.

As long as you have a fast LAN connection to the accounts folder it should work fine. Obviously a local hard drive will be a little faster if you can possibly do that. Putting the accounts folder on a SAN or other network location is usually only for sharing between multiple Ability Mail Servers for clustering.
