Auto Responders

Auto Responders

Postby malcolmhum » Wed Oct 07, 2015 11:26 am

Hi
On one of our email accounts we have an auto responder setup.
However, from time to time we come across some people we email, that also have auto responders setup.
We then get into a situation with '00 of emails bouncing back and forth with auto responders replying to auto responders.
Is there a way to automatically stop this without restricting the amount of emails someone can send per day.

Auto-resposes should by default have no smtp sender to avoid bounce backs. Assuming you're not doing anything from content filtering to change this. There is also infinite loop protection in general settings to avoid too many 'hops' before stopping responding.

Hi we are not getting bounce backs, we are getting auto responses from the recipient of our auto response.

Sorry I understand the no-reply. The field is not ticked by default, when you choose auto-response.

Thanks

I meant the auto-response to your auto-response as a bounce back. Usually because there is no SMTP Sender in auto-responses from Ability Mail Server you won't get an auto-response back to it. However, some mail servers may use the header fields of the email data to get a Sender and reply anyway. Infinite bounce protection in general settings is there for exactly this purpose so that after jumping back and forth X amount of times, Ability Mail Server will stop bouncing the mail back again.
