Primary Domain Name

Primary Domain Name

Postby m1byo » Wed Dec 10, 2008 11:57 am

Hello,

I have got AMS running with multiple domains, I am trying to work out what the "best practice" for the configuration of the primary domain is on the AMS configuration.

The reverse DNS for the Mail Server IP address is configured to mx1.ewebnet.co.uk. This IP corresponds to the A Record for the mx1.ewebnet.co.uk

Should I configure the primary domain in AMS to mx1.ewebnet.co.uk or should it be configured to ewebnet.co.uk (A Record for this points to a different IP than the mail server IP)

Thanks very much

Ian

The primary domain can be any domain that translates to your mail server IP (e.g. mail.domain.com) but would be better if this also matched the reverse DNS lookup (PTR record) for the IP. We are planning to improve this system in the future so that you will get an appropriate primary domain shown in the SMTP welcome message based on the domain you connect via.
