User without Domain

User without Domain

Postby SatWeb » Mon Dec 10, 2007 12:21 pm

Hi,

We are busy evaluating Ability Mail as a replacement for our existing email server - Vircom's VopMail. One stumbling block is the inability of Ability Mail :D to accept POP requests from users in our Primary Domain as just USER and not USER@DOMAIN

We cannot use the option of not having repeat names as all our domains have at least ABUSE & POSTMASTER as accounts. Many other account names are also repeated such as INFO & ACCOUNTS etc.

Vircom get around this by having a setting for Primary Domain which is then appended to any supplied account without a domain.

Hundreds of our users have their mail setup to not have the fully qualified email address in the POP account field (historical)

Is there any workaround or proposed update in Ability for this feature?

Your assistance is much appreciated.

Regards,

Mike

By default you can use either usernames or full email addresses as the user login username. If you don't set the option to require full email address login in the general settings, the only limitation of having the same username on several domains is that they must have unique passwords since the username and password pair is used for authentication and obviously you can't have more than one user with the same login credentials or the system wouldn't know which one to use.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your prompt response and for clarifying the issue. It seems like this will indeed work for us.
