Message Queue Notifications

Postby m1byo » Wed Oct 22, 2008 7:50 am

Hello,

It would be really good if it was possible to also notify an administrator (or potentially another email address) on delivery delays / delivery failures.

The delivery delays/message queue is a good initial indicator of if there are any configuration issues with the server (e.g. Spam being sent out and rejected by server as address doesnt exist, mailserver being added to blacklists, etc)

Thanks again for such a great and reliable product.

Delivery failures are generally only the result of the destination mail server rejecting the mail or not being found and are rarely an indication to the administrator that anything is wrong with Ability Mail Server. However, we do plan to enhance admin notifications among many other things in a future update although I can confirm this will definitely be after the release of AMS 3 next year as that update already has its defined list of features for the initial release with post-release updates to follow.

Is there any chance you can release something with a list of features which AMS 3 will have?

It would be really interesting to have an idea of what will be in it!

We don't have an official list of release updates but I can tell you about some of the main new features.

There will be a new remote installable dialog admin GUI which will allow you to control several Ability Mail Servers remotely from any computer using the proper dialog admin interface. This will also add a command line admin interface for it to use which can also be used directly for scripts and command line control over the mail server settings and pretty much everything you can think of.

There will be a new enhanced logging, monitoring and reporting system which will allow you to view realtime data about users, domains, services etc via the admin interface possibly using pie charts and graphs too. The current log system will also be filterable and viewable via the admin interface to allow you to search through these easily.

The Outgoing Mail queue system is being re-written to include a new priority system to allow new mails geater priority over retried mails etc. There will aslo be a new Outgoing Mail queue manager in the admin interface to view all mails in the outgoing mail system and also perform actions on them such as retry sending, delete etc.

There are mailing list enhancements, filtering upgrades and a new event scheduler (auto-update / auto-backup etc) among many other planned updates although some of these last ones may appear after the initial AMS3 release to help the main update be available sooner.

We are also working on a new FTP client due out next year too followed by Ability FTP Server 2 after these two main projects.
