Running AFS on Win 2K8 EE x64

Running AFS on Win 2K8 EE x64

When attempting to run AFS on one of our servers running Win 2K8 EE x64 the AFS refuses to load. I've tried running in compatiblity modus to 2K3 SP2 mode but it keeps giving the same error:

I'm going to go with running a Virtual Machine on the same server then looping that back to the main server, but I don't understand the problem.

I've tried with or without UAC and also with native administrator privileges but this also seems to not be functioning.

Any idea's?

Unfortunatly AFS presently does not support 2008 but of course this is something we will be fixing with the release of version 2, due for release next year. In the meantime this does mean that you will have to restrict its use to earlier versions of windows so I do apologise for any inconvience

Would you at least already have some alpha / beta or whatelse which could be run on Server 2008 from now on ?

Apart from installation issues on Vista and 2008 if the software writes in config files located where it is installed, which are so easily fixed by not installing to program Files, I hardly can imagine what complex issue you might have in fixing the plain crash which happen on starting the executable ?

I am right busy replacing an old W2K computer by a W2K8 one (x64) and AFS is the one and only one software among tens of them that I can't bring on and that will have to go to trash and be replaced. I can't obviously wait until some day in '09 and I can't keep an older OS just for this. Eventually a virtual machine might be a solution, though it is a bit overkill in licensing terms just to run AFS.

Which other FTP product might you recommend me to use on Windows Server 2008 to replace AFS ? I understand how 'funny' it might seem to ask you such a question here, but I fear I have no other good solution than switch.

Sorry we don't have a beta as the FTP server is still in the very early stages of the development cycle. I can understand and fully appreciate your desire to move all your software onto the new operating system. As to recommendations for software to fit into 2008 we of course don't have this kind of information. However, from personal experience in the past I found WS_FTP and Serv-U very reliable, but I haven't graced those products for a few years.

I sincerely thank you for having answered my post.
I have more or less solved the move for now using FileZilla server. Hopefully that machine didn't need (yet) the more advanced capabilities of Ability FTP Server. I know there is a new ftp server for IIS7 available as an additional download from MS, but had really no courage to even try it. So I will probably come back later to Ability FTP in 2009.
Thank you.
