NSLookup return

NSLookup return

Postby skeating » Fri Jan 27, 2017 12:39 am

I have run an nslookup on the domain alexandrialighting.com, and the Non Authoritatize response is 54.208.217.53, w2.lightsamerica.com, which is not me. What do I need to do about this?
I had an email rejected with this message: Rejected with: 451 Your domain is not configured to use this MX host

Hi Stephen,

The MX record for alexandrialighting.com is mail1.alexandrialighting.com which correctly points to your Ability Mail Server.

The A record for alexandrialighting.com resolves to 54.208.217.53. This should be your website IP address. The reverse DNS lookup for 54.208.217.53 resolves to w2.lightsamerica.com but w2.lightsamerica.com doesn't resolve to any IP. If 54.208.217.53 is the IP where your website is hosted then that bit is at least ok too.

Your MX IP has several reverse lookup (PTR) records including mail1.alexandrialighting.com so that's ok.
Your website IP address PTR should be updated to resolve to the domain(s) you're using to point to that IP ideally too but this is less of an issue than with your MX record in which the reverse lookup is often used for SPAM detection.
