Upgrading from version 1.20

Upgrading from version 1.20

Postby davewl » Mon Jan 14, 2008 10:00 pm

I have recently taken over a web server from a colleague - he is using Ability Mail Server version 1.20 Standard edition. Though I haven't used Ability before it has already shown itself to be resilient and effective.

I have just purchased upgrade keys to version 2 and to Enterprise.

Do you have a guide available covering the upgrade from version 1.20 to version 2 - the ones provided in the FAQ don't seem to match what I am getting.

I have tried to create a backup of settings so that I can just to an uninstall of version 1.20 and then do a clean install of version 2 - however each time I try to save the backup.sav file an error is generated :

Code: Select all
Unable to save the backup.

... with no further options.

Many thanks in advance

You can backup the version 1.20 by simply copying the entire "C:\Program Files\Code-Crafters\Abiltiy Mail Server" folder. However, you can install version 2 at the same time as it goes into a new "Ability Mail Server 2" folder and uses your version 1 installation to transfer all the settings to the new version since they are considerably different. Download and install version 2 from http://download.code-crafters.com/ams.exe. On the first run it will run a setup wizard to transfer your version 1 settings and set up the most basic settings (general settings, users, domains, SPAM etc). Make sure version 1 isn't running if possible during the settings transfer. You can then uninstall version 1 once the settings have been successfully transfered.

To upgrade your license to version 2 you need to purchase a Version 1.xx to Version 2.xx Upgrade from http://www.code-crafters.com/abilitymai ... rades.html. To upgrade from the old Professional Edition features to include the new Enterprise level features (content/antivirus/SPAM filtering, ODBC and shared address books) you also need to purchase a Profesional to Enterprise Upgrade from the same page. Both of these are very reasonably priced.
