Internal mail

Internal mail

Postby Deaky » Mon Apr 07, 2008 6:59 am

Hi all. I've recently switched to Windows Home Server from Windows Small Business Server. Since I could no longer use exchange I have tried quite a few mail server products. AMS is the one I have settled on. :)

One quick question though, is there a way I can make certain accounts only send and receive internal mail and be blocked from sending or receiving external mail

Regards

Thank you for your interest in Ability Mail Server.

This is indeed possible, to prevent the user from sending mail to external sources I would recommend creating a new group and disabling the Access Rights "Allow SMTP Authentication Access" and "Allow WebMail to Send to External Addresses". Then of course move the appropiate users to that group. To prevent them receiving mail from the internet is a little more difficult and the only way I can think to do this would be to use content filtering. Basically you would have to create a rule which had to conditions which similar to...

Sender / Recipients Exist (Set to check if the sender does not exist locally)
AND Any SMTP Recipient Matches (Set to contain a sub string list of all the email addresses which are not allowed to receive external mail).

The action would be best being "Reply to Email" with notice saying that user is not allowed to receive mail, and then Deleting the mail or redirecting it to storage account incase it is required in the future.
