User unable to send email the outlook 2007. When test account settingk, finding outbound server and unable to send test email fail. A msg from the postmaster is returned

Permanent Failure: 530_Recipient_refused._The_sender's_domain_requires_authentication_or_is_not

upgraded to 2.62 and this started a few days later. Of course when I uncheck smtp authenctication it works fine. Incoming mail works fine so I know the user name and password are correct. Have attempted

Hi Steve,
do you have Outlook setup to authenticate SMTP?
(go into your email account settings, go to "More settings", go to the "Outgoing Server" tab, make sure the checkbox for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" is checked)

The error message is that of one generated from the SPAM filters, but is basically a result of ther server not believing you are authenticated. Now since your outlook is certainly authenticating this must be something else. What I recommend doing is checking the SMTP logs and finding a transaction from you. This is simple to ensure your client does try to authenticate. A common problem is that if something intervenes (router, firewall...etc.) and prevents hte login process from occuring, outlook does not report this has a error (even if you have told it to login into the SMTP). Common possible causes for this include cisco router security options or SMTP auth reporting being disabled in the SMTP service settings.
