Timeout retrieving Emails

If we have a large number of Emails in a folder, Outlook Express gives a timeout error when trying to read any specific Email.
We have set up an IMAP for this, and have kinda got around the problem by dragging that specific email to a local folder and then opening from there ... but 's not ideal.

Any ideas?

When a folder begins to contain more than 10,000 mails, IMAP4 can be a very inefficient means to access the mails (alot of clients request and process data from the mails which can cause slow downs in response times when you first open a folder). The only real solution is access such folders from WebMail or alternatively, break the mail mass up into seperate folders.
