SMTP timeout.

SMTP timeout.

Postby ottf » Sat Dec 22, 2007 11:30 am

Hello,

I have latest version of AMS, enterprise edition. From local area network everything works! No problem!

From outer network, ex. outlook cannot send outgoing email using my enterprise mail server "connection timed out etc." error.

Im using windows 2003 server routing, ams is configured to listen all IP-s.

Anyone have idea how to fix it?

If the same actions work fine from within your network then it will most likely be a router, firewall or antivirus software problem. Make sure that all ports are forwarded from your router to your mail server IP and also let through any server side firewalls. You shouldn't run any background antivirus software on the mail server machine unless it is specifically a server based antivirus as most normal client based antivirus software will intercept and interfere with mail server communication. You should also make sure any SMTP filtering on your router is disabled. In particular, CISCO routers have an SMTP filter that doesn't support ESMTP and will break all SMTP transactions trying to send using SMTP authentication (needed for external relaying via outgoing mails). You should also check that your mail client settings are correct and check your SMTP logs to see if there is a connection to the mail server at all and if there are any error messages given that would pinpoint the problem further.
