POP3 Retrievals to distribute to clients via Bcc

POP3 Retrievals to distribute to clients via Bcc

Postby alan » Mon Oct 05, 2009 3:15 pm

Hi there,

I have a server that does pop3 retrievals from a catch all account and then distributes the
mail to the users on the local network. Everything works fine except that it does not deliver mails that was send
using the "Bcc" option. (Bcc works fine for the clients on the local network but mails that comes in via pop3 retrieval
is not delivered to clients).

Do you have a solution for me on this please!!!!

Thanks

The reason for this is that generally mails sent to a bcc address do not actually result in the mail header being modified. Bcc stands for blind carbon copy which means that there shouldn't be any trace that the mail was sent to those clients. This does mean POP3 Retrieval has now way to know to send to these addresses as it depends on the mail headers (the original recipient destination list of hte mail will have been lost when it was delivered to your external host). The only solution would be to request your external host adds extra header fields when receiving the mail which could print out a list of all recipients.
