How to remove mail attachment?

Postby contex » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:31 pm

Hi, I have been using Ability Mail Server about 3 years still wondering how to remove huge attachments without deleting the original mail from inbox/folders.

I tried using text editor remove them but it didn't work.

Is this something you want to do for particular emails or for any large incoming email

if it is for any large email you could use something similar to the strip attachment preset example and add another condition which looks at the email size/attachment size

If it is for one-off emails, you could set up another mailbox on the server which you then forward the email to and content filtering would strip the attachment and send it back. for that, I would set up content filtering to look for emails sent to that email address, strip all attachments, remove all recipients and add the sender as the only recipient.

I hope that helps! If it isnt very clear, let me know and I will give you more information!

Ian's suggestions are excellent ideas and something you should consider.

Also another option is to use a mail client such as outlook, which allow you to edit the emails via IMAP4. Removing attachments is something that has been suggested in the past and is something we hope to add in a future update but in the meantime content filtering, manual editing of the raw emails or mail clients should allow you to still achieve this.

Yes, for those old archive email from clients but wish to remove huge attachments because my server is running out space. I want to have sender, date & time unchanged.

I can't figure out how it works, could you elaborate more Ian?
Regards.

Looks like a small utility/plugin can make this program a few steps closer to perfection.
