I have recently implimented LDAP and was wondering if there is a possiblity of including LDAP directory browsing in a future version

We will soon release a new update (perhaps for 2.62) which will upgrade our LDAP support and add the ability to integrate LDAP with outlook and so allow non-search access to the list of addresses stored within the database. At present the LDAP service of course allows for searching queries.

Also, on note with the LDAP / Addressbook theme, is it possible to include a setting so that you can access the LDAP address book from Webmail, as at the moment I can only see how to include a shared address book which basically does not include all of the local users on the system

The idea is that you create a shared address book with all local users in and set the user group to have access to the shared address book so that its viewable from WebMail. You should then create an LDAP database containing that shared address book so that mail clients can view the same shared address book users.

That is the other way round to I understood it.

You create shared address book for all non-local but common email addresses and you use LDAP to complile the directory from the shared address book and the internal user list to create the complete address book for everyone.

Is it possible to do it that way round, or include an option to import users into a shared address book to reduce the amount of 'double-entry' of data required.

I would create 2 shared address books. One for local users and one for other external users. Then in the LDAP database and group settings choose which to allow access to for mail clients and WebMail respecitively.

That would still need double entry of addresses for the local users.

I am only after 1 common address list for both Webmail and the Outlook LDAP clients without having to copy and paste every local user into a shared address book (which would probably become out of date very quickly)

At the moment LDAP gets all of the users for the address list from the users on the system (which means the users can keep their own details up to date and the address book will be up to date accordingly) and the shared address book where the required external contacts are stored, This list is then used for the clients using outlook.

The key for this idea was to extend the feature which LDAP is already providing into the webmail system list so everyone can see this one main address list which is automatically kept up to date.

Shared address books should be used to add all local / external users. There is an Add User button to quickly add all local users. Obviously, if new ones are added this isn't automatically updated in the shared address book and we will try to add a facility to do this but periodically you can easily add all local users with a few clicks. LDAP should then just use this shared address book to compile its database meaning that it sees the same contacts. Note that LDAP databases are compiled and any new users added won't be put into that until re-compiled. So to recap, when adding more users, re-add new users to the shared address book then re-compile the LDAP database containing that shared address book.
