PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 530 Authentication req

Postby aluisi » Mon Feb 25, 2008 10:57 pm

This is the error i am now getting. PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 530 Authentication required for acceptance of any mail

I was told by my ISP that they were getting reports that people were receiving spam from our mail server IP address. I turned on SMTP Authentication and Anti Hammering. We are able to send out messages but when some one tries to send us one the mail gets bounced back to them with that fallowing error. If i turn off SMTP Authentication we can send and receive emails but the mail server starts to get flooded with Outgoing Mail connections and thousands of mail sitting in que. I am at a loss of what to do. This is our primary business email and we need it for our company. Any help here would be great.

First of all, you must enable SMTP authentication to prevent unathorised mail being relayed via your mail server (SPAM mails via open relay). Next, I should point out that this error is not from Ability Mail Server. If you have set your outgoing mail settings to relay your mail via your ISP then you should enter a username and password for the SMTP authentication that appears to be required on this mail server. Use the Test DNS and Test Outgoing Route buttons in the outgoing mail settings to check that these settings work ok. You should also check your DNS records and make sure that your MX records for your domains correctly point to your Ability Mail Server so that incoming mail is directed at the right mail server. If you send me your domains to chris@code-crafters.com I'll check your DNS records and connections for you.
