LDAP help or tips

LDAP help or tips

Postby mattb » Tue Mar 04, 2008 1:45 pm

I would like to use outlook to access the address book but It alway comes up empty. If I try to search it does not find emal addresses I know exist in the shared address book. I dont have a lot of experience with ldap so I dont know if its somthing I'm doing, somthing messed up with my outlook client or if I misconfigured ldap.
I downloaded JXplorer ldap browser but I alway get protocol error when I try to access your ldap. Of course I dont know what to enter for DSML service values and Base DN? I also turned off the authentication just so I could verify.
Any suggestions or help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks

The first thing I can recommend is to check you have compiled your LDAP database (it is a common error to set it up, but not compile it in the LDAP service settings). If this still doesn't work, I would recommend examining your LDAP logs as these may contain clues as to what is going wrong. I should note that presently the only way to access LDAP from a mail client such as Outlook is to indeed search the records, no Base DN needs to be provided as far as I know also. However, in the next update we are planning on adding the option of using the quick search method located in Outlook (clicking the icon next to the To line) to have a more suitable connection to LDAP. Presntly you must search and store the address book records you require.

Ok, it does work after I compile it and if I search for a specific name.
Thanks.
